About Our Pastor
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.”
Reverend Melvin Washington was born again and water baptized in 1973. On July 11, 1981, he was filled with the Holy Spirit and called into Ministry. He attended Capitol City Religious Institute from 1982 to 1984 and was ordained June 11, 1984.
Reverend Washington started a home Bible Study group that consisted of approximately 15 people. In 1987 he moved his Bible Study group into his first church,“ True Vine Ministry”. He was led to change the church name to “Word of Faith Christian Center” in 1998.
To help direct his path in Ministry he decided that more was needed. Being led by the Spirit of God, he attended Word of Life Christian Center School of Ministry in Darrow, Louisiana and graduated on May 28, 1994.
Reverend Washington has been in the Ministry for 24 years, Pastoring for 22 years.
He is married to Jacqueline Carolina Washington. They have two daughters, Pamela Christmas and Paula Washington, seven grandchildren and one great-grand son.
Reverend Washington preaches the gospel with simplicity, accuracy and boldness. Fruit is produced in the lives of the believers; they learn to walk by faith and live a victorious life. Reverend Washington is noted for his great compassion for people where his love is demonstrated not only in word, but also in deeds.
Teacher Jackie Washington is the wife of Reverend Melvin Washington, pastor and founder of Word of Faith Christian Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She has two beautiful daughters, Pamela Christmas and Paula Washington, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
Teacher Jackie was born again and filled with the Holy Spirit in June of 1982. In October of 1989, God commissioned her to “Teach His People Prayer.” Because of this call and assignment from God, she has traveled all over the nation teaching about prayer. Teacher Washington's teachings on prayer have been broadcast on the radio for over 14 years on the Abiding in the Vine broadcast. She teaches God's people “How to Live a Committed and Successful Life of Prayer.” She has recorded those teachings to help believers to stay in faith.
In April of 2004, Teacher Washington received a word of knowledge to “initiate prayer structure in the ministry.” Then while kneeling during prayer, she received another word, K.N.E.E.S., and the Ministry of K.N.E.E.S. began. Using the K.N.E.E.S. principle, she is fervent in motivating women to pray and believe in God without ceasing.
Teacher Jackie is a graduate of Word of Life Christian Center School of Ministry in Darrow, Louisiana. She is the author of A Rhema Word in Prayer, for Prayer and Through Prayer and Prayer Confessions. She is the prayer coordinator for the Word of Faith Christian Center and works prayerfully with her husband to help bring to pass the vision God gave to Pastor Melvin Washington. Teacher Jackie extends her ministry to bless the lives of many as owner and director of Christian Care Daycare and Learning Center in Geismar, Louisiana.
