John Haas Weinstein

John Haas Weinstein limits his practice to Bankruptcy and Major Commercial Litigation throughout Louisiana. He is past chairperson of the LSBA's Bankruptcy Specialization Committee, Certified by LSBA and the American Bankruptcy Institute's Consumer Bankruptcy Law section. He has extensive experience and expertise in Chapter 11 reorganizations for troubled companies and individuals. Mr. Weinstein also has extensive trial experience. He served as State District Court Judge in the 27th Judicial District Court for St. Landry Parish during the mid 1990s. He was originally admitted to the Louisiana State Bar in 1975.

Mr. Weinstein is a graduate from LSU Undergraduate and Law School. He played on the LSU 1970 Southeastern Conference Championship Football Team. He is also a licensed pilot.

Tom St. Germain

Tom St. Germain also practices in the areas of bankruptcy and commercial litigation. He has been admitted to practice law in Louisiana since 1997 and was originally admitted to the bar in the State of California in 1993. He is admitted to practice before the state and numerous federal courts in Louisiana, California, and Washington. He has represented debtors, creditors, trustees, and committees in cases under Chapters 7,11,12, and 13. He has confirmed numerous plans in Chapters 11 and 12 on behalf of debtors, including some cases with debts in excess of $15,000,000.00.

Mr. St. Germain is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and University of California at Los Angeles Law School.

History of the Firm

John Haas Weinstein graduated from LSU law school in 1975 and started his own firm in 1977 in Opelousas, Louisiana. Mr. Weinstein originally had more of a general practice but always focused on the areas of bankruptcy and commercial litigation. Mr. Weinstein served as a Chapter 7 trustee during the 1980s and served as State District Court Judge in the 27th Judicial District Court for St. Landry Parish during the mid 1990s.

In the early 1990s, Mr. Weinstein won the largest redhibition verdict in the State of Louisiana in the case of MTU v. Raven Marine, which lasted between 1982 and 1993. (See MTU of North America v. Raven Marine,) 603 So.2d 803 (La. App. 1st Cir. 1992), reconsideration denied 614 So.2d 74.

Tom St. Germain graduated from UCLA law school in 1993 and began his practice in Los Angeles, where his focus was bankruptcy and commercial litigation involving construction companies. In 1996, Mr. St. Germain returned to Louisiana and began practicing with Mr. Weinstein, primarily in the areas of bankruptcy and commercial litigation. Between 2000 and 2002, Mr. St. Germain lived and practiced in Seattle, Washington, and worked with failed dot com and tech companies. In 2002, Mr. St. Germain returned again to Louisiana, shortly after which he was married and had three children.

In 2007, the firm of Weinstein & St. Germain, LLC, was formed and moved into offices in Lafayette, Louisiana. The firm has thriving practices in both business and consumer bankruptcy. Moreover, the firm always has a number of active commercial litigation cases. While the firm's practice is mostly geared toward representing debtors throughout Louisiana, the firm also represents creditors in Louisiana and other states and has represented debtors in Texas.
