How often should I have my transmission checked?

  • Refer to your owners manual for proper service intervals, however checking your transmission fluid regularly is recommended.

How do I know if my transmission fluid is dirty?

  • Transmission fluid should be a bright red in color.  If you notice your fluid is turning a darker color, it may be time to have your transmission serviced.  Contact TransMedics to set up an appointment to have a technician check your transmission for you.

What kind of fluid should I use?

  • Because each manufacturer differ in which kind of fluid to use, refer to your owners manual for the proper fluid type.  If you still have questions, please contact TransMedics and speak with one of our Service Advisors for the proper fluid type.

Should I have my transmission "Flushed"?

  • We at TransMedics do not recommend flushing your transmission.  We recommend to a normal service, which consist of removing the pan, replacing the filter and filling with new fluid.   *where applicable*

My "check engine light" is on, is my transmission bad?

  • Not necessarily.  Your check engine light can be on for many reasons, including engine, transmission, or emission problems.  Its best to contact TransMedics to set up an appointment to have your vehicle checked out.

How much does it cost to have my transmission checked?

  • Most of the time our "Diagnostic Check" is free.  If more intensive diagnostics are needed, we will let you know a price before hand.

How much do typical transmission repairs cost?

  • Because transmission repairs range so widely in cost with small repairs  to major overhauls, it is impossible to say what the cost is without doing a Diagnostic Check.  Contact a TransMedics service advisor to set up an appointment for a free Diagnostic Check.

How long does in normally take to repair a transmission?

  • It depends on if it a small or large repair but typically worst case it usually 3-4 days depending on parts availability.

Is it better to "Rebuild" or "Replace" my transmission?

  • With today's cars, each transmission is calibrated to your vehicles computer so we find it is much better to build the transmission that is in your car to insure your transmission works properly.  We also find the cost of rebuilding is significantly less than replacing. 

My transmission is(slipping/jerking/shifting erratic/leaking), does this mean I need to have my transmission rebuilt?

  • Because each symptom can have multiple causes, it is best to have a Diagnostic Check done by one of our technicians at TransMedics.  We can then pinpoint the problem to find out whether your transmission needs a small simple repair or a complete rebuild.
