What is Chiropractic Care?
There is nothing mysterious about chiropractic. It’s a natural method of health care that focuses on treating the causes of physical problems and injuries, rather than just the symptoms. Chiropractic is based on a simple but powerful premise: with a normally functioning spine and surrounding muscles, your body can heal itself. That’s because the brain and spinal cord (which is protected by the spine), is the main pathway of your nervous system, which in turn controls every feeling, movement, and function throughout your body.
When the nervous system is impaired by an injury, stress, or illness, it can cause muscles, joints, and organs throughout the body to function poorly. This is why the spine is so important in maintaining pain free, good health. Your spine is designed to support your weight and protect your spinal cord, the vital link from your brain to the rest of your body. Your spinal nerves affect all parts of the body; problems in your spine can cause problems throughout your body.
Is Chiropractic Safe?
Yes. Chiropractic is safer than back surgery, muscle relaxers, aspirin or ibuprofen. Even newborns and children can receive chiropractic care.
Is the Treatment Painful?
No. Chiropractic adjustments feel good. Like lifting a heavy rock off your toe, most patients report their chiropractic adjustments feel great. When the bones of the spine return to a more normal motion and position, nervous system function can be restored, symptoms relieved, and the natural healing process can proceed.
Why do I need Chiropractic Care when I am not in Pain?
Many people think that health is merely the absence of pain or symptoms. Today, more and more of us are interested in a higher level of health called wellness. Beyond merely feeling better or preventing health problems, we want to fully enjoy life by being at our very best mentally, physically, and socially. True health is only possible with an optimally functioning nervous system.
Once I start Chiropractic Care, do I have to Keep Going?
No. Generally speaking, there are three phases of care:
•Initial Care
Also called relief or acute care, designed to eliminate or reduce the majority of discomfort and stabilize your condition in the shortest amount of time.
•Rehabilitative Care
Designed to correct any underlying spinal injury, as well as strengthen the muscles to improve spinal function and provide more complete or optimum healing of tissues and organ systems.
•Maintenance/Wellness Care
Designed to maintain your improved health and spinal function and prevent the return of the original condition once spinal correction has been attained Continue as long as you want. Like regular dental checkups, once patients experience the value of chiropractic, many choose to continue. How long you decide to benefit from chiropractic care is always up to you. The truth is chiropractic is a conservative, drug-free approach to better health that has helped millions of people since 1895.

How can Chiropractic help with Sports Injuries?
Spinal injuries can restrict range of motion, reduce strength, slow reflexes, shorten endurance, and decrease performance. Chiropractic care for these types of injuries has become increasingly popular. Professional sports teams, Olympic trainers, and competitive athletes are employing chiropractic doctors because they demand results.
Does my Insurance cover Chiropractic?
As with any treatment, this will vary depending on your policy. However, most insurance does cover chiropractic. We are providers for most major carriers including: Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, Aetna, United Healthcare, PHCS, Accordia, Medicare, and many others. Auto accident and workers’ compensation clients are also accepted in our offices. We will file all claims and paperwork for you.
What if I don’t have Insurance?
Chiropractic care is very affordable. We have payment plans to fit most budgets. During your free consultation, the doctor will discuss treatment and payment options with you.
What is Workers’ Compensation?
Workers’ Compensation is a term used by the state, your employer, and your doctor to describe the process of care to be taken when you are injured at work. This is much different than an injury from a sport or leisure activity. When you are injured at work from a fall, lifting or over-exertion, the first step is to report it to your supervisor. Your human resources department will produce paperwork that you and your employer will sign. A claim with your employer’s insurance company must be opened before treatment can begin. Total Health Chiropractic will attempt to treat you so that you may return to work as soon as possible. Studies show that chiropractic care is the most effective form of treatment for many work related injuries.
If you are injured at work, Tennessee law requires your employers to provide you with a list of at least three doctors to choose from, one of whom must be a chiropractor.
What is Whiplash?
Whiplash injuries are the most common injury from car accidents. The term comes from the motion of the head snapping forward and back, like a whip. This type of injury damages the spine, discs, ligaments, and muscles in the neck. The resulting instability of the spine and soft tissues can contribute to headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, pain in the shoulders, arms and hands, reduced ability to turn and bend, and low back problems. As the body attempts to adapt, symptoms may not appear until weeks or even months later.
The chiropractic approach to these types of injuries is to use specific chiropractic adjustments to help normalize spinal function. After a thorough case history and examination, the doctor will recommend a series of visits to help restore proper motion and position of spinal bones. If caught early enough, inflammation can be reduced and scar tissue can be minimized. Even though the car may have received little damage, occupants can suffer serious spinal injuries.
Consult a Doctor of Chiropractic before depending upon addictive pain medication, enduring constant whiplash-related headaches or submitting to surgery.
