Hi there friends, We live in NH and just saw Cody on a re-run of Ellen Degeneres today. My mother called to tell my husband that there was a 6 year old double amputee running races. I instantly thought of Oscar, the fastest man with no legs, who tried out for the Olympics. He must be an inspiration to Cody. I would like to say that as a parent of a 2 year old amputee I am so inspired by Cody. Our sons name is Carter and he was born with severe birth defects on all 4 limbs. He has fibula hememelia in his left leg (abscense of fibula) and he also had a bent tibia in that leg. His foot only had 3 toes and was missing many bones. His right foot is missing one toe. He has a congenital amputation of his left arm just below the elbow. He also is missing his pinky on his right hand, had one webbed finger and 2 fused fingers. He has had 4 surgeries in his short life. At 6 months old they amputated his leg below the knee and straightened his tibia with a pin. Without the amputation he would never have been able to walk on that foot. His 2nd surgery they removed a small nubbin thumb from his little arm and seperated his webbed finger. His 3rd surgery they removed the pin from his tibia. His most recent surgery they revised his amputation and shortened his leg. He got his 1st leg and arm prosthetic at 8 months old. He walks, runs, climbs and does everything his BIG brother, Chase, does. He is now getting fitted for his 3rd prosthetic leg and will receive a more sophisticated foot. We have seen so many inspiring stories but none like your son Cody. To see such a young child accomplish so much is amazing. We know in our hearts our son will be as determined as Cody. We have been through so much in the past 2 years and it helps to know that we are not the only parents out there who face these struggles. If you are ever near NH we would love to meet your family. Please tell Cody he made our day with his story and we will follow his story forever.
