ADMINISTRATIVE LAW
Blue, Stephens & Fellers has tremendous insight into the process by which North Carolina’s laws and administrative rules are made, enforced by North Carolina’s numerous state agencies and boards, and interpreted by the courts. Our Firms’ attorneys have held the following positions that have helped to inform our Administrative Law practice:
- Speaker of the House of the North Carolina State Legislature
- President of the North Carolina State Bar
- North Carolina Superior Court Judge
- Chairman of the State House Judiciary and Appropriations Committees
- Chairman of the Board of Trustees of North Carolina Central University
- Member of the Board of Trustees of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- Member of the Board of Trustees of Duke University
Relying upon our attorneys’ breath of knowledge in the administrative law process, we have represented successfully individual and corporate clients before several agencies and boards, including the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles, N.C. Medical Board, N.C. Industrial Commission, N.C. Board of Elections, N.C Nursing Board, and the Social Works Licensure Board.
CIVIL LITIGATION
Much of Blue, Stephens & Fellers success is attributable to our civil litigation practice. Over the past three decades, our clients have included businesses, both large and small, individuals, and charitable organizations. While the Firm’s Civil Litigation practice is very diverse in terms of the scope and complexity of the matters being litigated, a pervasive characteristic of the practice is our lawyers’ exercise of highly thoughtful and skilled advocacy to promote our clients’ interests.
One significant advantage we bring to all of our clients is our presence and experience in North Carolina’s state and federal courts. While so many law firms and their lawyers avoid the courtroom, our lawyers thrive there. We recognize that many disputes, regardless of who the client may be, can be resolved without going to court, but our litigation strategy always is to prepare for what we believe will be an inevitable trial.
CRIMINAL DEFENSE
Blue, Stephens & Fellers’ criminal defense practice has ranged from white-collar criminal investigations to routine traffic matters, thereby encompassing the multitude of misdemeanors and felonies in between. Whether a Firm client is under investigation by the North Carolina Attorney General or being prosecuted by a local district attorney, we safeguard our clients’ fundamental rights to fairness and a zealous defense. We advise our clients throughout the criminal process, and ensure that they are equipped with the requisite knowledge to make informed decisions throughout the course of any criminal proceeding.

REAL ESTATE

WRONGFUL DEATH/SEVERE PERSONAL INJURIES
An action for wrongful death, or any other personal injury, is a specialized form of civil litigation, but because of the nature of the lawsuit itself, often is extremely emotional for a victim’s family. Our attorneys approach any wrongful death action with aggressive, but sensitive representation that seeks to satisfy our clients’ needs by obtaining compensation for defendants’ negligence.
Our Firm takes great pride in its representation of injured persons or their families. As with any civil litigation matter, we always prepare for trial, and aggressively protect our clients’ interests. We have tremendous experience litigating against insurance companies and their policyholders, and recognize that many of them will not voluntarily fulfill their responsibility to pay legitimate claims, but rather, must be forced to do so.
