Breast cancer continues to be the most frightening disease facing women today and early detection remains the best means for obtaining a favorable prognosis. Our goal in establishing “The Breast Center at Warner Robins” is to provide a comprehensive breast care facility that specializes not only in diagnosing and treating breast disease, but also in early detection and prevention. Our physicians are all members of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and are specially trained in all aspects of breast related diseases.

Our early detection program can include screening, education, clinical examination, diagnostic mammography, and sonography. We feel that these methods lead to a more accurate diagnosis and, most importantly, a more appropriate treatment method. As an example, by utilizing in-house ultrasonography in conjunction with the aforementioned methods of detection, palpable masses and other lesions can be better characterized and treated more efficiently and effectively. Ultrasound can be utilized to differentiate cystic from solid lesions whereby we are able to provide a more accurate method for obtaining tissue samples by aspiration or core biopsy for pathological examination.

Since the surgeon is usually responsible for the treatment of breast disease, the American College of Surgeons recommends “the surgeon be involved as soon as possible in the initial evaluation of the woman suspected for breast disease.” Early involvement allows the surgeon to perform a clinical examination and, as necessary, prescribe relative diagnostic tests (mammogram, ultrasound, etc.). Hands on surgeon performed sonograms lead to a clear understanding by the surgeon as to the exact location of a lesion, its characteristics, and can often allow for a minimally invasive removal of the tissue sample. We utilize state-of-the-art equipment and are able to perform minimally invasive ultrasound guided biopsies in the Center under local anesthesia.
