Meet The Doctors

Our physicians are all certified by the American Board of Surgery. To be board certified, a surgeon must have completed college, four years of medical school, five years of postgraduate study (internship and residency), practiced as a surgeon for two years and pass a certifying exam.

They are also members of the following organizations:

  • Society of Cosmetic Breast Surgeons
  • Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons

Our physicians are interested in educating and training future physicians and hold the
following academic appointments:

  • Assistant Professor, The Department of Community Medicine, Mercer University School of Medicine
  • Clinical Instructor, Department of General Surgery, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Virgle W. Dr. Virgle W. "Gil" McEver III Dr. McEver received his BS from North Georgia College in Dahlonega; his M.D. was from the Medical College of Georgia in 1979. He completed both his internship and residency at Dwight David Eisenhower Medical Center, Ft. Gordon, Georgia. Prior to his joining Surgical Associates in 1987, Dr. McEver served as a U.S. Army Surgeon at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and Fort Stewart, Georgia.
 
Dr. Michael A. HellwegeDr. Michael A. Hellwege Dr. Hellwege earned his BS from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1981 and his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the same institution in 1985. Both his internship and residency were spent at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta from 1985-90. Dr. Hellwege joined the practice in 1990.
 
Dr. T. Kent McBrideDr. T. Kent McBride Dr. McBride graduated from the University of California with a BS in Biology in 1980. In 1984 he received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Southern California. Dr. McBride served his internship and residency at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, California. He served a pediatric surgical externship at the Children's Hospital, Los Angeles, California and a surgical oncology externship at City of Hope Cancer Center. In 1989 Dr. McBride transferred to Robins Air Force Base to serve as Chief of Surgical Services and joined the practice in 1991.
 
Dr. Robert C. CampbellDr. Robert C. Campbell Dr. Campbell received his BS degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and his MD degree from Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Georgia. He completed his internship and general surgery residency at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. Dr. Campbell joined the practice in 2001.
