WATERING
Always water deeply. Make sure to water in the morning. Avoid watering at night which can promote the development of fungus. New gardens should be watered on the following schedule:
First and second days following installation
Water deeply
Days four and six
Water deeply
Second week
Water every 2-3 days depending on how hot it is and how much wind movement exists to dry out the plants. If the weather is overcast and cool, water every 3-4 days. If the week is hot, dry or windy; water every other day.
Third Week
Water deeply twice a week
Fourth Week and the rest of the growing season
Water very deeply once a week
WATERING CONTAINERS
Plants in containers must be watered more frequently. When planting containers, be sure to add Soil Moist. This granular product should be mixed in the bottom half of the container. When the water is added, the Soil Moist gels and helps retain moisture.
FERTILIZERS
Always fertilize annuals and perennials with a slow release fertilizer such as Osmocote. Replenish pots and beds with a second application after three months. Flowering plants benefit greatly from daily watering with a water soluble fertilizer (such as Peter’s or Miracle Gro).
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Deadheading annuals and perennials promotes blooming and growth. Monitor your plants for any insects or fungus. Treat any problems immediately. If you are unable to determine the source of the problem please feel free to bring in a cutting for diagnosis. Many plant problems can be remedied easily with several applications if caught early.
