If your furniture is in standing water it can not only damage the furniture ,but in some cases the furniture stain may transfer onto your carpet and/or rugs. The faster you can get the furniture out of the water the more the damage can be reduced. If possible(always make sure it is safe) you can put aluminum foil, wax paper, plastic bags, or maybe small pieces of unstained wood(cut up pieces of a 2'x4'). It is not recommended to use anything that may itself bleed(transfer color) onto your carpet/rugs. If you are unable to safely block or tab your furniture ServiceMaster technicians will do this for you when they arrive.

Water Damage - Should I turn off the electricity if I have water in my home?

Should I turn off the electricity if I have water in my home?

Never do anything with the electricity unless you are absolutely sure that it is safe. In most cases it is best to stay out of the affected areas until ServiceMaster and/or a qualified electrician has been able to inspect the damage. In most cases it is not an issue ,but it is always best to side with caution when you are dealing with electricity.
