Call in advance if you would like to try a Karate or Jiu Jitsu class, but you can drop in on your choice of Yoga or Pilates.   Listen to Shihan Pukish’s interview with hosts Cindy and Ray of the Atlanta based radio station Star 94.  Mr. Pukish was contacted, as an expert in self defense, in regards to a recent string of robberies and muggings that have occurred in the Lenox mall area of Atlanta.  He gave valuable safety advice for anyone that would like to take a more proactive role in their safety and that of their family.   Part 1 Part 2     Mr. Pukish's Promotion   Mr. Pukish was recently promoted at the Instructor's training seminar, PAMAI, in Sarasota, Florida. The promotion was granted by Hanshi Steve Roensch, the founder of Shintoyoshinkai Combat Jiu Jitsu.   The promotion was to the rank of 6th degree Black Belt in Jiu Jitsu. Mr. Pukish also serves as a Chief Instructor, State Director and Chief Technical Director for Hanshi Roensch and his organization, American Budokai International.   In addition to the promotion in rank, a new title was also awarded, the title of "Shihan." In martial arts, there are different titles that can be awarded at different ranks. The title "Renshi" translates to "polished expert" and can only be awarded to a practitioner that possesses a fifth degree Black Belt or higher and has been in the arts for at least 25 years. Mr. Pukish was awarded this title in 2001. Titles do not automatically come with rank, but rank is required before becoming eligible to be considered for a title.   The title "Shihan" translates to "teacher of teachers" and can only be awarded to a sixth degree Black Belt or higher. There are many definitions to the title Shihan. The kanji, or Japanese writings, translate to "master example or an external manifestation of an internal force." Congratulations to Shihan Pukish!
