Rhema Word Ministries, Scriptures, Teachings

God has given us the freedom of choice. The Bible consists of life stories of men and women who made choices, some good and some bad. All of us have decisions to make during our life time that will affect us and others around us either in a positive or a negative way. We have been given the right to choose our friends, our careers and our places of employment. Later in life we're granted the opportunity to choose our life's partner, our place of residence and our place of worship. From Genesis (Adam and Eve), to Revelations (the churches of Asia), man has been given the privilege to choose.

As an example, I had to make a choice to obey God (or not) when He chose to call me into the ministry. I wanted to be certain I wasn't imagining this or even hearing the voice of God mistakenly. "It just doesn't make sense", I thought. Here I am, first of all, a very shy person, and secondly, one who finds it difficult to create conversation with strangers. These personality traits just didn't fit someone who had been called into the ministry. I had always admired those with the call on their lives, and I never pictured myself on the same level as the ones I've admired. I had every reason to be hesitant with accepting such an assignment. Nevertheless, I surrendered to God's call and begin to do the work He had ordained me to do.

As I read through the scriptures, I found evidence of others who were called to a particular job with characteristics similar to mine. There were those who had made mistakes, those who questioned God, and those who’ve wondered, "why me?" But God worked through them to carry out His plan for His people.

What types of people does God call to fulfill His plan? All types.

  • Moses:one who struggled with low self-esteem. (Exodus 4:10)
  • Jacob:a deceiver but yet he fathered twelve sons who became leaders of Israel. (Genesis 27)
  • David:an adulterer and murderer but yet a man in the linage of Jesus Christ (II Samuel 11:2-5, 15-17)
  • Peter:a denier, yet he preached Jesus Christ to the Gentiles (Matthew 26:69-75)
  • Paul:an abuser of the Christians, yet the writer of the majority of the New Testament (Acts 9:1-2)

These named either did not believe he could carry out the assignment, or he thought he wasn't right for the position. But God's work was accomplished through these men. Isn't it something how God's choices doesn't always make sense to us?

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.

-I Corinthians 1:27

His choices may confuse us and we may not understand why God does what He does. Our limited thinking will not allow us to grasp hold to God's perception, for His ways and knowledge far surpasses ours. Our way of thinking says, "I can't.” But God's way of thinking says, "I CAN."

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

-Philippians 4:13

I believe if we will ask God first about the choices and decisions we are to make, we would make less mistakes and have less worries.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

-Matthew 6:33

It seems that the things we want and desire to have takes first priority in our lives. It is in total contrast to what Matthew was saying in 6:33.

Our number one priority should be seeking God and His desires instead of our own. He wants to be consulted before we use our own abilities and energies. We cannot make sound decisions without allowing God to be a part of our decision-making process.

In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path. Proverbs 3:6 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and he delighted in his way.

-Psalms 37:23

How awesome it is to have our Father's guidance in every step we take. How awesome it is to have a Father who is concerned about our choices. Let's allow God's word to direct us in our decision making. Apply it to every detail of the process. What does God have to say about it? What would God have me to do? Consider Him and what He wants. Let Him lead while we take pleasure in the end results.

Personal Prayer...
Father, I thank you for your love and concern for me. Help me to make sound decisions based on Your Word. Help me to be sensitive to your leading. Grant me the ability to understand your -word that I might apply it to my life. With your help and guidance I know my decisions will be godly and spiritually motivated. In Jesus' Name I pray. Amen
