Optical Illusions Optometrists

 

William Steiner, O.D.

Dr Steiner is a Bay Area native. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in Economics. He went to the Southern California College of Optometry where he earned his Doctor of Optometry degree with Honors. In 1982 he moved to San Mateo and Optical Illusions was born. Dr. Steiner's personal approach to patient care has built a large following over the past 27 years.

 

He is past president of the San Mateo County Optometric Society, and served many years on the Board of Directors of the SMCOS. He volunteers time at the Samaritan House which provides eye care service to the local community.

 

Michael Gatschet, O.D.

Dr. Gatschet grew up in Southern California and received a Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree from U.C. Riverside and U.C. Berkeley. His Doctor of Optometry degree is from the U.C. Berkeley School of Optometry.

 

Associated with Optical Illusions for more than 20 years, Dr. Gatschet has enjoyed providing exceptional service and quality eye care to Silicon Valley patients throughout his career. At Optical Illusions he specializes in prescribing glasses and contact and providing pre-LASIK and post-LASIK care for patients.

 

Dr. Gatschet has also participated in “flying doctors” volunteer vision clinics for the poor in Mexico, Belize, Fiji, Kenya, Tanzania, Ecuador and Guatemala.

 

In his free time, Dr. Gatschet enjoys going to the gym, snow skiing, golf, hiking, camping, whitewater rafting and is an avid reader. He travels when he can, mostly to warm places where he can snorkel, scuba dive, and enjoy the sun.

Dr. Jessie Liu is a native of the Bay Area and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of California, Davis. He continued on the University of California, Berkeley to receive his Doctor of Optometry degree in 2006.

 

During his four years of optometry school, he completed his internships at Kaiser Point West in Sacramento, the Livermore Veteran Affairs Hospital and San Francisco Veteran Affairs Hospital where he received intensive training on the full scope of optometric area. He also received recognition for his work in the infant/toddler clinic at UC Berkeley Optometry.

 

In addition to spectacle and contact lens prescriptions, Dr. Liu is licensed to provide treatment for eye infection, inflammation, allergy, chronic dryness, and removal of foreign bodies. He is also licensed to co-manage cases where surgical intervention is necessary (Lasik, cataract extraction, etc.)

 

Dr. Liu enjoys being active during his time off: basketball, running, tennis, volleyball, golf and anything sports related. Dr. Liu is also fluent in Mandarin.
