Melissa L. Cobbs, M.D.
Being the mother of three boys, Dr. Cobbs is well aware of the healthcare needs of women. Born in Atlanta, Dr. Cobbs
received her medical degree and completed her residency at Emory University School of Medicine.
After residency, Dr. Cobbs and her husband spent six months in Nepal on a medical mission. She then came to Savannah
and started practice with Dr D. W. Fillingim. In 1995 she became one of the founding physicians of OB/GYN Associates.
She enjoys the fulfillment of obstetrics and stays apprised of the latest technology of gynecology, urogynecology,
adolescent and menopausal medicine to provide care to women of all ages.
She is a member of The
American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The Georgia Medical
Society, The Society
of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, The
American Medical Association and The
Medical Association of Georgia.
Melanie B. Helmken, M.D.
Dr. Helmken, a native Georgian, completed her medical education at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
She completed her residency program at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah. She then began private practice in Savannah in 1993.
Dr. Helmken is a member of The
American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The
Medical Association of Georgia, The
Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and the Georgia Obstetrical
and Gynecological Society. She is Chairman of Elect of Dept. of
OB/GYN and the QA Committee for Candler Hospital.
Dr. Helmken enjoys the rewards of a thriving obstetrical practice. Being a wife and mother she understands the
problems that women face and is able to offer the latest advances in gynecological care to her patients.
Glen Scarbrough, M.D.
Glen Scarbrough, M.D. is a Board Certified OB/GYN. Dr. Scarbrough, a native of Savannah, received his undergraduate
degree from Furman University in Greenville, SC. He completed his medical degree from Mercer University in Macon, GA
and his residency at Emory University in Atlanta. His medical training was marked by academic honors, including
induction into the National Medical Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha. During his residency, he was voted
“Best Laparoscopic Surgeon” by his attending physicians.
Dr. Scarbrough has extensive surgical experience and training, especially with laparoscopic techniques. In addition
to gynecologic surgery, he specializes in high-risk as well as normal obstetrics.
His interest in cosmetic services includes laser
hair removal, FotoFacials,
and spider vein treatments via the acclaimed
VascuLight technology. He enjoys restoring the youthful appearance
of aging skin and erasing the telltale effects of time with this
non-surgical, non-invasive approach.
An active member at Calvary Temple in Savannah, Dr. Scarbrough
volunteers his time instructing adolescents on the risks of sexual
behavior and promotes abstinence as the only sure way of preventing
infections and unplanned pregnancies. He is an active member of
Christian Medical and Dental Society
and has actively served in medical missions in Nigeria.
Dr. Scarbrough is married. He and his wife, Lea, have two young girls, Addison and Elliot. He enjoys most outdoor
activities including running, boating, hunting and skiing.
Roger W. Scarbrough, Jr., M.D.
Dr. Scarbrough, a native Georgian, is the senior partner of OB/GYN
Associates. He has been in private practice in Savannah since 1967.
He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia
and training at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah and Southern
Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, LA. He is board certified by The
American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and The
American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.
Dr. Scarbrough has stayed on the cutting edge of technology becoming
one of the first Gynecologists in Savannah to perform operative
laparoscopic surgery. Since Dr. Scarbrough no longer works in obstetrics
he has expanded his practice to include permanent
hair reduction, spider vein obliteration
and FotoFacial™ rejuvenation
through Intense Pulsed Light technology and laser.
Dr. Scarbrough has served as the Chief of Staff of Candler Hospital and Chief of OB/GYN at both Memorial and
St. Joseph's hospitals. He holds memberships in The American College of OB/GYN, American Medical Association,
Medical Association of Georgia, The Georgia Medical Society and The Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons.
Dr. Scarbrough is married and has two sons who are also physicians.
Dr. R. W. Scarbrough retired on May 19, 2006.
Jules Toraya, M.D.
Dr. Toraya was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut and received his medical degree from Georgetown University School
of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He completed his residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
He was certified by The American
Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1983 and began private
practice in Savannah in 1981. He was one of the founding physicians
of OB/GYN Associates of Savannah in 1995.
Dr. Toraya serves as managing partner of OB/GYN Associates and is presently the Vice Chief of Staff of Candler
Hospital. He will become Chief of Staff in 2005.
Dr. Toraya is married and has three children. He enjoys classic cars and ran in the Great American Road Race.
H. Elizabeth McIntosh, M.D.
Dr. McIntosh received her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. She completed her residency at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC, where she trained in the latest surgical techniques including minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, urinary incontinence and breast health. Dr. McIntosh is a Board Certified OB/GYN and is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The Georgia Medical Society and the American Medical Associates.
Her practice includes caring for both obstetric and gynecologic patients. She focuses on educating women about their bodies to help them be active participants in their healthcare. She enjoys caring for women of all ages, from adolescence and menopause.
In her free time, Dr. McIntosh enjoys spending time with her family, taking advantage of the many outdoor activities that Savannah has to offer. |
