Transmission Maintenance Tips
Maintaining your transmission is just as important as getting your oil changed. Here are a few things to help you avoid early transmission damage:
- Check out your owner's manual then schedule regular maintenance checks according to the instructions
- When checking your oil or having it changed, have your transmission checked as well
- Never drive your vehicle if the transmission fluid is low or, even worse, empty
- Never shift from drive to reverse while the automobile is moving.
- With front wheel drive cars, issues can arise if you spin your tires in a turn
- If you suspect transmission problems, don’t drive the vehicle. This could cause further problems.
- Do not put your vehicle in 4x4 on dry pavement unless vehicle is all-wheel or automatic 4x4
- Your vehicle should come to a complete stop before moving into another range of gear.
- Driving on spare or mismatched tires with front wheel or all-wheel drive could damage your transmission over an extended period of time.
