Jeanne Pryor Spence, 86, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at her home.  A native of Fitzgerald, Georgia she was daughter of the late Shepherd Pryor, Jr. and Jeffie Persons Pryor.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John W. Spence.

               Jeanne earned a B.S. degree in zoology at the University of Georgia, where she was a Tri Delta.  During World War II, she served as a medical technician.  Much of her married life was spent in the Chicago area where she served in various women’s organizations before retiring to Asheville in 1983.

               She is survived by daughters, Hollace Spence McCormick of Memphis, Tennessee and LisaJoy Shepherd of Prescott, Arizona; five grandchildren, John Spence Sowa, Lindsay Sowa Schwalbe, Majid Al-Adwani, Shareefa Al-Adwani and Barrock Al-Adwani; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Nadia Al-Adwani, and numerous cousins.
