
John B Stephens, 83, of 4 Oak Forest Court, died October 6, 2008 in Canton, Georgia. Born in MacBee, SC, he was son of the late Daniel Stephens and Bleeka Melton Stephens. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Billie Parker Stephens; son, John Gary Stephens; brothers, Dan Stephens, Jr., Frank Stephens, Howard Stephens, Joel Stephens, and Doc Stephens.
He served in the US Navy in World War II and the Korean War. He was very active over the last 20 years coordinating reunions with his shipmates serving during his time in the Navy, he loved visiting with them.
John and his family lived from 1952 until 1968 in Miami, Florida where he owned an electronic repair business. They moved to Asheville in 1968 where he opened LUMS restaurant on Tunnel Road and also owned several other local businesses. His passion was antique cars and he collected them during his lifetime. He belonged to the Antique Auto Club and frequently traveled to shows with one of his old cars.
He is survived by his daughters, Jan Williams and her husband, Vernon of Canton, Georgia; Dee Call and her husband Jim, of Frisco, TX; son, Dan Stephens of Phoenix, AZ; brothers, Dale Stephens of Augusta, Georgia; Donald Stephens of Prosperity, SC; sister, Caroline Stephens of Columbia, SC; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 10:30AM-12:00PM, Friday, October 10, 2008 at Morris Funeral Home, Arden Chapel, 2393 Hendersonville Road followed by a 2:00PM Military graveside rites at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in Fletcher.
