LAWRENCE "LARRY" P. CARTER



     Lawrence “Larry” P. Carter, 90, of 235 Rocky Mountain Way, died Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at J.F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center.  A native of Detroit, MI, he was son of the late George Frederick and Helen Fredette Carter.  In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by sisters, Rose George and Eva Miller.

 

     As an active member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church since 1980, he was a Member of the Knights of Columbus and a Past Grand Knight; St. Vincent de Paul Society and a member of the SFO since 1941. 

 

     He is survived by his wife, Barbara Dillaway Carter; six sons, George of Warren, Mich., Joel of Hendersonville, N.C., Kevin of Mountain Home, N.C., Gregory and his wife Holly, of Mills River, N.C.,  Alan of Hendersonville, N,C., Gary and his wife Michelle, of Fletcher, N.C.; seven daughters, Laura Mastracci and her husband, Mark of Berkley, Mich., Gayle Williams and her husband, Kent of Butler, Tenn., Karen Blaszyk and her husband, John of Leonard, Mich., Denise Ficorelli and her husband Dan of Warren, Mich., Janet Camilleri and her husband, Ray of Port Richie, Fla., Christine Wechsler and her husband, Sonny of Beverly Hills, Mich.,  Colleen Hogan and her husband, Jack of Asheville; three sisters, Catherine Fournier of Berkley, Mich., Mary Hewson of Ft. Gratiot, Mich., Lucy Wood of Berkley, Mich.; 36 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

 

     A prayer service will be held 9:30AM, Monday, September 22, 2008 at St. Barnabas Catholic Church followed by a memorial service at 10:30AM, with Father Adrian Porras officiating.  Burial will be 10:00AM, Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at WNC State Veterans Cemetery.
