Margaret Knetter Hardiman, 83, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Laurels of Green Tree Ridge.

    Born in New York City, Margaret lived in the metropolitan area until her retirement to Asheville with her late husband Kenneth in the early eighties.  After raising her three daughters, she pursued a late life career in social work, but her first loves were literature and philosophy, and she studied these at the college level in Asheville.

     Margaret had strong friendships and maintained many close ties all her life, despite geographical distance.

     She is survived by her daughters, Mary Farley, Jane Hardiman and Kim Hardiman; sisters, Alice Bolinski and Joan Byrne; brother, Henry Knetter and three grandchildren.
