Louise Marie Shillcock, 91, formerly of Mt. Vernon Place, died Friday, July 18, 2008 in the WNC Baptist Home. Born and raised in Maplewood, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Louise Conklin, and wife of Paul Shillcock. Louise lived in the Maplewood/South Orange area until retirement took her and Paul to Jacksonville, FL. After Paul’s death in 1983, Louise relocated to Asheville to be near her grandchildren.
Paul and Louise had four children, two sons, Paul W. Shillcock and his wife, Zoë, of Palm Desert, CA and Gerard Leo Shillcock of Mendham, NJ; two daughters, Judith Anne Shillcock of Clifton, NJ and Susan Jane Shillcock and her husband David W. Olson of Asheville. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Alissa Jane Olson and Susanne Marie Olson and was preceded in death by her grandson, Seth David Olson.
Louse was a self-sufficient, independent and outgoing person who believed in living life to the fullest. She was active and involved in church and community affairs until she was slowed some by the inability to drive several years ago. She remained in her Asheville home of 19 years, until almost 90 years old, and then moved to the WNC Baptist Home in September of 2006.
Mrs. Shillcock was a member of St. Eugene’s Catholic Church, and also a member of the Women’s Guild. She was an active volunteer at St. Eugene’s, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Dickson Elementary School and was a Sister’s of Mercy Associate.
She will forever be remembered by her children and grandchildren as a loving and caring person who encouraged all to be the best they could be, to foster peace in the world and care about all people. Louise believed that laughter eased all problems and always loved a good joke. She was spirited, feisty, and young at heart, proving to be an inspiration to everyone she knew and met. She will be deeply missed.
A Memorial Service will be held 1:00PM, Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at St. Eugene’s Catholic Church.
