Paris Porche` Bailey, 85, of Donna Drive died Monday, June 16, 2008 at The Laurels of Green Tree Ridge. A native of Mars Hill she was daughter of the late Ottie A. and Dessie Callahan Porche`. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, J. B. Porche`; a sister, Marie English and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Rolls Porche`.
Mrs. Bailey had lived in Asheville since 1950 and was a member of Upper Laurel Baptist Church. She worked for The Bootery but spent most of her life as a homemaker and could cook cornbread like no other. As a pianist she particularly enjoyed country and gospel music, she had a passion for traveling when she was able and especially enjoyed the beach. She was an avid bingo player.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Luther Bailey; two sons, Maurice O. Bailey and Kim Arthur Bailey, both of Asheville; a brother, Phil Porche` of Palmetto, FL; two sisters, Hazel Rice of Asheville and Beatrice Angel of St. Petersburg, FL; a brother-in-law, Zade English and two grandchildren, Heather and Maurice O. Bailey, Jr.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008 in the Chapel of Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Avenue with Rev. Donald Williams, Rev. Frank Cantrell and Rev. David Hunt officiating. Interment will follow at Lewis Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, June 18, 2008 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM.
