John Charles Aiken passed away at his home in Asheville, NC, April 27th, 2008, two days after his 58th birthday. He was the fourth child of ten children born to Anne and Dick Aiken of Sanford, FL. He was graduated from Seminole High School, class of 1968 and attended Seminole Community College. He was an accomplished musician from an early age and was the Organist at All Souls Church from 1972 until 1991. He moved to Asheville, NC in Jan. 1995. Where he fell in love with the climate and the beauty of the mountains. He loved to talk with people and so it was Kismet when he landed a job in May of 1996 with TSAChoice, the telephone company in Asheville, NC where he worked happily until his death. He raised Champion Samoyeds with his Partner of more than 11 years, John Michael Stevens. He was very happy with his life and loved to call back home to Sanford to brag about how wonderful and cool it was in Asheville.
He is survived by his partner Michael Stevens of Asheville, 8 brothers and sisters: Dian Maguire (Altamonte Springs), Anne Hayes (Ashby, MA), David S. Aiken (Lexington, KY) Missy Jalovecky (Titusville, FL), Richard (Dickie) Aiken (Flower Mound, TX), Michael Aiken (Longwood, FL), Timothy Aiken (Leesburg, VA), and Morgen (Mary) Aiken (Sanford, FL) along with 14 Nieces and Nephews and 6 Great Nieces and Nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 at 11:00am at Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Ave. Asheville NC. Michael has requested a donation in lieu of Flowers be given to the Animal Compassion Network of Asheville to honour John Charles’ love for animals. Their address is P.O. Box 1704, Skyland, NC 28776. John Charles was well loved and will be greatly missed.
