M/Sgt Reginald C. Riedel, Ret. Joined his beloved wife Shirley in the arms of Jesus on April 14, 2008 at Magnolia Health Care.
He was born June 3, 1929, in Uniontown, AL to the late Harry & Letha Riedel.
Reggie spent 30 years in the service of his country with the US Marine Corps. He was a decorated War Veteran, receiving two Purple Hearts. He served in the Korean Conflict and two tours in Viet Nam. He retired in 1976 and made Asheville his permanent home where he worked as a Substance Abuse Counselor with the Neil Dobbins Detox Center. He retired from that position January, 1994.
He was an avid gardener with a special fondness for tomatoes. He and his wife Shirley enjoyed doing lapidary and traveling to gem and mineral shows, as well as taking cruises.
He was a member of First Baptist Church Asheville and an active member of the Seekers Sunday School Class as long as his health permitted.
Surviving are his daughter ReGina Riedel and son Reggie (Bud) Riedel, Jr., and four grandchildren: April Lewis, Melissa Grant, Autumn Riedel and Alicia Grant.
Memorial services for Mr. Riedel will be held Thursday, 5:30 PM., in the chapel of First Baptist Church Asheville with Rev. Edgar Ferrell officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service.
