Richard C. Rothweiler

Asheville -– Richard C. Rothweiler, 81, of Asheville died peacefully Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Universal Healthcare of Fletcher from complications due to congestive heart disease.

   A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Richard was born October 25, 1926 to Charles and Louise Rothweiler. He graduated from Marquette University with degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering. In 1968 he moved to Asheville with Square D Company. In 1985 he retired as chief engineer, working 29 years with the company. He received seventeen domestic and three foreign patents during his career. He was an avid golfer and, he amazingly scored two holes-in-one in the same week in 2001. He was a long-time member of St. Eugene’s Catholic Church where he served as finance council chair. He was involved in various other charitable organizations, and he also enjoyed great friends and playing bridge with his companion, Julia Reeves in several bridge clubs in the area. 

   He is survived by his four sons; David of Spartanburg, S.C., Robert and his wife Diana of Fairview, William and his wife Sharon of Greensboro, N.C., and Thomas and his wife Sarah of Buford, GA.; a daughter, Joanne Trammel and her husband Rex of Twin Falls, ID.; ten grandchildren; two brothers, Gilbert (Brother Basil) of Minnesota., Charles of Arizona.; three sisters, Bernice Tries, Marion Clemmons, and Dorothy Callen all of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Janet; his sister Grace Sherburne; and grandson, Jacob Trammel.

   A Wake Service will be held on Sunday, April 6 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Avenue.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.  A Burial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 7 at St. Eugene’s Catholic Church. Burial will immediately follow at Lewis Memorial Park.
