VIRGINIA BIEDENBACH

Virginia Biedenbach

Agnes Virginia Davidson Biedenbach, 90 years old, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29th at Emerald Ridge Nursing Home where she had resided for her last few years following a stroke.

The family will receive visitors in Asheville from 7 to 8pm on Tuesday, April 1st at the Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Avenue.  A memorial service is planned for a later date at Westover United Methodist Church, 300 Powell Drive, Raleigh, NC, with the spreading of Virginia’s ashes at one of her favorite places, Wrightsville Beach.

The family and friends of Virginia mourn the loss of this gentle and kind lady who was born, married and raised two sons in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before moving to Raleigh, N.C. to enjoy retirement in 1971, and finally coming to Asheville to live with her Asheville family in 1998.

Virginia is the daughter of Margaret Dawson Hamilton of English decent and Scotland-born James Davidson of Kirkaldy, both of whom passed from Virginia’s life at an early age.

Virginia was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Edward William Biedenbach and her younger sister Mary Louise Davidson Nicholls, both Pittsburgh residents who moved to Raleigh in their later years.

Virginia is survived by her two devoted sons: William Edward “Bill” Biedenbach of Pittsburgh (wife Chris) and Edward Joseph “Eddie” Biedenbach (wife Barbara); Four loving grand children: Tracy Biedenbach Frey (husband Greg) of Mint Hill, Amy Christine Biedenbach of Raleigh, Dawn Matz Cory (husband John) of Pittsburgh and Travis Matz of Pittsburgh; Four young great grandchildren: Riley Christine Frey and Tessa, Taylor & Ryan Cory; and survived as well by several caring nephews and nieces: Biff Nicholls of Wendell (wife Leslie, daughters Blake and Tayler), Trudy Nicholls Burns of Raleigh (husband Bob, daughters Christi, Debbi and Sandi).

Virginia was the epitome of the Best of a bygone era.  Her family holds fond memories of her many selfless acts, her devotion to God, dedication to her friends and family and her joyful appreciation and attachment to her grandchildren.  We will miss her so very much.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in memory of our dear Virginia to the CART Fund (“Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust”), a 501 c (3) organization established by Rotary in 1995.  Donations can be mailed to CART Fund, c/o Asheville Rotary Club, P.O.B. 1954, Asheville, NC 28802.
