Permit Information

DO I REALLY NEED A PERMIT TO REPLACE MY DOOR? Yes! It is required by the State of Florida that all garage doors must have been tested to stand up to hurricane force winds, that a permit be pulled in order to install a garage door, and that a final inspection be performed by a local building official. The amount of windload varies by location within the state.

WHAT IS THE WIND DEGREE FOR ALACHUA COUNTY? All doors installed within Alachua County must be able to withstand at least 110 M.P.H.

IS THIS A GUARANTEE THAT MY DOOR WILL NOT FAIL IN A HURRICANE? If winds rise above 110 m.p.h. there is no guarantee that the door will withstand the additional force.

ONCE MY DOOR IS INSTALLED, AND I RECEIVE MY PERMIT WHAT'S NEXT? At this point, a final inspection by a city or county codes official is needed. You should call our office and schedule the appointment through us. Ask for our permit coordinator.

DOES THAT MEAN THE INSPECTION WILL BE DONE BY YOUR COMPANY? No. It is required that we schedule the inspection because we pulled the permit. However, there will not be an employee of Lester's Garage Doors inspecting your door. An official from the city or county will be scheduled to come to your home and inspect our work on a day of your choosing.

CAN I REQUEST A SPECIFIC APPOINTMENT TIME? No. Neither the city or county will schedule a specific time. You will need to choose a day that you can be home all day.

CAN'T I LEAVE MY DOOR MANUAL / OPEN AND THE INSPECTOR JUST COME BY? No. The inspector will not come onto your property if no one is home. The inspection would not be completed and would have to be rescheduled.

Batteries:

• 9 or 12-volt batteries are the most commonly used for garage door remotes
• Can purchase in local grocery stores or retail stores (often found near camera/electronic section)

Light Bulbs

• Home Depot and Publix may carry them
• Should say "Garage Door Light Bulbs" *

*We recommend that these are used because they have stronger filament than regular light bulbs and will better handle the movement of the garage door opening/closing. This will help your light bulbs last much longer.

Regular light bulbs can be used, but we recommend checking your owners manual for the appropriate wattage to use. CAUTION: Using to high of wattage can melt the opener cover!

Door Lubricant

• Pro 21 (sold at Lester's Garage Doors) Used for door hinges, roller, and springs.*
• Silicon Spray

* WD-4D evaporates very quickly, and the door will need lubricated more often. Our Pro 2l spray will last for at least one year before more lubricant will be needed.
