1. How often do I need to have my wood burning fireplace cleaned?

If you use your fireplace frequently, you should have it cleaned after 1 cord of wood and inspected annually.

2. How often do I need to have my gas fireplace cleaned?

Gas logs burn cleaner than wood burning fireplaces do. Annual inspections are recommended but cleaning annually isn’t necessary.

3. Will you need to get inside my home?

Yes, the fireplace cleaning takes place on the inside and outside of the home.

4. My fireplace smokes. What causes that?

90% of homes have a smoking fireplace because the fireplace was built incorrectly. Other reasons could be because the top is impaired or the flue is impaired.

5. I have water leaking into my fireplace and I also have water stains on the ceiling and the wall around the fireplace. Can your company fix my problem?

Yes, J.H. Kinard will complete a thorough inspection to find out where the water is coming from and help in the prevention of further leaks. We install caps, pans, dampers, seal flashing and crowns, and install professional water sealant. Whatever your problem, we will fix it.

6. Can I convert my gas fireplace into wood burning?

If you have a fully operational fireplace, whether masonry or pre-fab, it would normally be as simple as removing the gas logs and capping the gas line or installing a gas log lighter. But with today’s new appliances, direct vent and ventless units would not be set up for solid fuel (wood) and could not be converted to wood burning.

7. Can I save on my gas bill by using my fireplace?

Your fireplace would reflect heat into the room and would have to be burned for a long period of time to make the fireplace heat efficient. There are other sources of energy such as wood stoves or inserts that are more efficient.

8. I have birds in my chimney. What can I do?

The birds in your chimney are called chimney swifts and they nest one or two times a year. After their nesting period, your chimney should be cleaned and a cap should be installed on top of your chimney to keep out any animals or debris that could fall down inside. If you already have a cap, you may need the screening around it replaced or repaired.

9. How long before we can get someone out to look at my fireplace?

J. H. Kinard can usually make an appointment in two to three days and a job can be done in 5 to 10 days depending upon the job.

10. How do I pay your company and do you offer any type of special offers or discounts?

Payment is due at time of service.  We accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard and Discover.  We do offer a 10% senior citizen discount.
