What Is SEMG?

Surface Electromyography is the measure of muscle tension. The greater the bar length, the higher the amount of muscle tension.

How Does It Work?

SEMG is essentially a very sensitive version of the EKG used to measure your heart. When there is a problem with your spine, or "subluxation", the muscles respond to this nerve interference by tensing and bracing to compensate for the problem. In general, the healthier spine shows more balanced muscle tension.

Below is an example of a patients unbalanced spine.

Low readings can also be bad. Muscles in spasm sometimes "shut down," as they become fatigued. Expect muscle activity to increase over several weeks of adjustments, as the muscles begin firing more normally.

How Does This Relate To Chiropractic?

Vertebral Subluxations reduce your body's ability to maintain optimal health. When vertebral subluxations are present, the nervous system is less able to function properly, resulting in a less than optimal state of health. The chiropractor's job is to utilize tools like the MyoVision to detect and correct subluxations and help to optimize your health.

How Do Chiropractic Adjustments Affect My Results?

The chiropractic adjustment has many benefits to your nervous system. In most cases, the SEMG readings normalize and balance over time.

What Is Thermography?

Temperature should be relatively even when comparing left and right sides of the spine. If there are large differences in temperature (as in the example below right), it means blood is flowing more to one side over the other, indicating possible nerve interference.

Is It Painful? Can It Be Done On Pregnant Woman And Children?

The SEMG and Thermoglide units simply are measurement devices. They do not emit radiation and are safe and painless for everyone!
