William G. Sprott, Jr.,60, passed away Monday, June 29, 2009,  at the Robin Johnson Hospice House of Dallas, NC.  He  was born in Covington, Ky on  August 19, 1948, son of the late William G. Sprott, Sr., and Alice Davis Rimmer. 

 

Mr. Sprott is survived by his wife of 40 years, Onwia Lovin Sprott of the home. Daughters and Sons-in-Law:  Leslie and Tony Green; Kimberly and Michael Mauldin; Annette and George Hall.  Brother:  Robert and wife Brenda Sprott.  Niece:  Alicia Miller; Nephew:  Rob Sprott and Johnny Turlington;  Special Friend:  Linda Sprott and a Heartfelt thanks to all of Bill’s friends from Freightliner.  Grandchildren:  Anthony (T.J.) Green; Brooke Green; Rolland Calhoun, Rodney, Nathan, Tyler, and Jada Hall.

 

Preceded in death in addition to his parents:  Sister, Mary Turlington and husband John.  Brother:  John Edward Sprott and Father –in-law, Rex Lovin.

 

Bill was a Gastonia City Police Officer for 9 years and was the city’s first drug dog handler. He also worked at Freightliner in Mt. Holly for 30 years.

 

Bill loved to spend time with his family and play with his grandchildren.  Bill also loved to fish and spend time on the lake.

 

Funeral Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel on Wednesday, July 1, 2009  with Rev. Charles Lowe, officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at Greene Funeral Service South  Chapel.

J. H. Grindstaff

J. H. Grindstaff, 71, of 501 St. Luke Church Rd., Kings Mountain, passed away  Monday, June 29, 2009 at Gaston Memorial Hospital in  Gastonia.

He was born in Gaston County, NC on July 17, 1937 , son of the late Robert Lee Grindstaff and the late Daisy McClellan Grindstaff.

Mr. Grindstaff attended First Assembly of God in Gastonia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Monk Grindstaff and brother, Garland Grindstaff.

Survivors include his son, Nelson Wayne Grindstaff;  daughter, Robin Grindstaff Youngblood;  brother,  Benny Grindstaff; sisters,  Callie Kelso, Daisy Beam, Betty Louise Drennan and  Sue Grindstaff;
seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Greene Funeral Service - West Chapel in Gastonia.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 01, 2009 at Greene Funeral Service - West Chapel  in Gastonia with Rev. Lamar Creel officiating. 

Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery in Gastonia.

Pauline Wooten Center

 

Pauline Wooten Center, age 82, of 606 Mica St., Kings Mountain, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 26, 2009 at her residence.

 She was born in Greenville County, SC on July 10, 1926, daughter of the late Thomas and Ela Howard Wooten. She was a loving wife, a great mother, and grandmother.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Broadus and TJ Wooten and her sister, Ila Howard.

 Pauline is survived by her husband of over 65 years, Rev. Ansel Center Jr.; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Brenda Center of Landrum, SC, and Daniel and Judy Center of Kings Mountain; daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Keith Gosnell of Landrum, SC; brother, John Wooten of Landrum, SC; sister, Viola Atkins of Landrum, SC; seven grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren.

 She was a member of Baptist Tabernacle in Dallas for over 17 years.

 Visitation will be on Sunday, June 28 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Baptist Tabernacle in Dallas and other times at the home.

 The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at the church.

 Rev. Ralph Carver and Rev. Keith Carson will officiate the service.

 Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Sharon Gibbie  Hamby

 

 Sharon Gibbie Hamby, 53, of  3051 Chestnut Rd, Lincolnton, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2009 at her residence.

Sharon was a native of Gaston County and a member of Baptist Tabernacle in Dallas.  Sharon was a real christian and a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and daughter.  She was loved very much by everyone. Sharon loved to sing at church and she sang many times for funerals.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Phillip Timothy Gibbie and Donald Howard  Gibbie and sister, Beth Gibbie;  father-in-law, Yates Hamby Sr;  maternal grandparents, Annie Mitchell White and Walt Mitchell and paternal  grandparents, Jess and Mary Gibbie

Survivors include her parents, Howard and Maxine Gibbie;  husband of over 24 years, Keith Hamby;  daughters, Caroline Beheler and Holly Hamby;  brother, Michael Gibbie; sister and brother-in-law, Starlene and Billy Wease; five grandchildren, Lauren Beheler, Trace Hamby, Ashtyn Hamby, Ciara Hamby and Elliana Hamby; mother-in-law, Willie Hamby.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Baptist Tabernacle in Dallas.

Robert Hugh Watts, 91, of  Gastonia. passed away Thursday, June 25th, 2009 at Gaston Memorial Hospital
He was born September 14, 1917 in Bessemer City, NC,
son of the late Audie Clifford Watts and Laura Candace Blackwood Watts.
Mr. Watts was a member of Unity Baptist Church, Gastonia. He was a US Army WWII Veteran. He worked for the Gaston County School System at Chapel Grove Elementary School for 20 years.

A funeral service will be held 2:00pm on Saturday at Unity Baptist Church, Gastonia
officiated by Rev. Gregory Scott Shields and Rev. Roger Mathis.
Interment will be at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City,NC
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

He is survived by his Brother in-law, Robert Nash; nephew, Bill Watts of Bessemer City; niece, Pat Sweet of Rock Hill,SC; great nephew, Rev. Gregory Scott Shields and wife, Laura of Weaverville,NC; great niece, Beverly Nash Gale and husband, Jeffrey of Gastonia.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Whitworth Watts and brothers Leonard and Paul Watts.

Marie  Guin Morgan, 77, of  225 Parkdale Circle,  Kings Mountain,  went  to her heavenly home, a loving mother, sister and grandmother on  Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at Kings Mountain Hospital.

She was born in  Cleveland County,  NC on May 31, 1932, daughter of the late Isaac H. Guin and the late Mary Etta Smith Guin.

Mrs. Morgan was a homemaker and an Assistant Pastor at Calvary Way Holiness Church in Kings Mountain.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by  her brother, Daniel S. Guin.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-eight years, Clifton E. Morgan Jr.;  sons and daughters-in-law, Eric Morgan and wife, Susie of Earl; Dana Morgan and wife,  Gail of Gaffney, SC; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray Guin of Bessemer City,  Roger Guin and wife, Kay,  Robert Guin and wife, Bonnie all of Kings Mountain; sisters, Nell Guin Leonhardt of Kings Mountain, Kathleen Daves of Wildwood Fla. and sister-in-law, Velma Guin of Bessemer City;  eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. 

Visitation will be  Friday, June 26, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Greene Funeral Service - West Chapel in Gastonia.

A funeral service will be held  at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at  Greene Funeral Service - West Chapel, in Gastonia with Rev.  Royd Grinoll officiating.

Interment will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain.
