When teeth are missing, surrounding teeth often drift out of place to fill the empty space. Without teeth to provide support, the month loses its shape. The lip line straightens and the lips appear thin and flattened. Pouches become noticeable on either side of the lower jaw. The natural balance of your mouth is completely changed.
Your dentist can help. Missing teeth can and should be replaced. Sometimes your dentist may recommend a fixed (stationary) bridge to the remaining teeth that surround the space. In other cases, your dentist may recommend a removable partial denture to fill the empty space.
If for some critical reasons, you are left with no remaining teeth, implants or complete dentures may be indicated for you. Following an oral examination and any necessary radiographs, a diagnosis is then possible. During an office consultation visit, your dentist can assist you in making the right choice for you.
The benefits of teeth replacement:
- Chewing will be easier
- Likelihood of losing remaining teeth is lessened
- Remaining teeth will be kept in position
- Tooth decay and gum disease may be prevented
