Saving Teeth
Root Canal Therapy
Deep tooth decay, or an injury, can cause serious damage and infection to the nerve chamber of the tooth. When the nerve chamber of a tooth becomes infected by decay, ROOT CANAL THERAPY is often the only way to save your tooth.
Some indications of the need for root canal therapy may be:
Spontaneous pain or throbbing while biting.
Sensitivity to hot and cold foods.
Severe decay or an injury that creates an abscess (infection) in the bone.
Diagnosing and Treating Periodontal Disease (gum disease)
The most common types of periodontal disease are gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis is the earliest stage and affects only the gum tissue. At this stage, the disease is still reversible. However, if not treated, it may lead to a more severe condition.
Periodontitis is
the more advanced stage of periodontal diseases. The gums, bone and other structures that support the teeth become damaged. Teeth can become loose and fall out—or may have to be removed. At this stage, the disease may require extensive treatment to prevent tooth loss.
The method of treatment of periodontal diseases depends upon the type of disease and how far the condition has progressed. Following an oral examination and any necessary radiographs, a diagnosis is possible. During an office consultation visit your dentist can explain the treatment options available to you.
