The Dental Health of Children Is Very Important To Us
From the first tooth...
The gum and teeth of your new baby should be cared for soon after birth.
After each feeding, gently wipe the baby's gums with a soft, damp washcloth or soft gauze pad.

To help sooth your baby's tender gums during teething, lightly rub the baby's gums with a clean finger or a wet gauze pad. A cool teething ring can also help.

When the first teeth appear, begin using a soft-bristle baby's toothbrush to clean the teeth on a daily basis. This regular oral cleaning routine after meals will instill good oral hygiene habits early in your child's life.

As more teeth appear, add a pea-size dab of children's fluoride toothpaste to the child's soft-bristle brush, being careful not to allow swallowing of the toothpaste.

As your little toddler grows, it will need a brush designed for it. The children's toothbrush with a large handle can help them control their brush. Children's toothbrushes should have soft bristles and rounded ends for safe and gentle cleaning of teeth and gum tissue.

Children’s Dental Visits
You may wish to start your child's visits to the dentist soon after the first tooth erupts, and then, upon the advice of your dentist, follow a program of regular dental office visits.

Dr. Green starts seeing children at age three. If you would like to appoint your child for a visit to our office, please call and speak with our dental hygiene appointment coordinator who will be happy to provide you with some helpful pointers about your young child's visit to our office, including pointers on how to prepare your child, yourself, and pointers on how you might help us prepare to serve your child and address your child's needs as a new patient to our practice. Children enjoy our CAESY patient education cartoons, produced especially for them. Ask the appointment coordinator about CAESY.

Remember, healthy eating habits will lead to healthy teeth. Snacks should include lots of vegetables and low-fat dairy products.

To encourage good brushing habits, use a fluoride toothpaste that is pleasing, easy to use, and accepted by the American Dental Association. Also, encourage TWICE-A-DAY brushing habits.
