Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. The liver has many jobs. It removes toxins from the blood and makes bile, which helps digest food. There are many types of hepatitis. A, B, C, D, and E are all caused by viruses. They cause inflammation and damage to liver cells.
Acute Hepatitis
This is the active form of the disease that lasts a few weeks to a few months. Most people recover and are fine afterwards.
Chronic Hepatitis
This is the long-lasting form of the disease. It can lead to severe liver damage. It can be caused by the hepatitis B and C viruses.

Liver Biopsy
Liver Biopsy is a test that checks for liver disease. For people with chronic hepatitis, it is useful for finding out the cause as well as how much liver damage a person has.
This is a test to look inside the ducts that connect your liver, gallbladder, and pancreas to the first part of your small intestine. It is used to evaluate and treat problems such as gallstones. A long, bendable scope is used to the test. The scope sends a picture to a TV screen. Tools can be passed through the end of the scope. They are used to inject dye, clear a blockage, or take out stones. This test is used with x-rays. The x-rays show how the injected dye outlines the ducts.
Upper GI Endoscope
This is a test used to look inside your esophagus, stomach, and the first part of your small intestine. It is used to evaluate problems like heartburn, acid reflux, ulcers, or stomach pain. A long, bendable scope is used for the test. The scope sends a picture to a TV screen. Tools can be passed through the end of the scope. They can be used to stop bleeding or take a sample of tissue.
