Company History
For over 50 years, the Martinson family has proudly serving the Jackson metro area in some facet of the gardening industry. Martinson's Garden Works was originally owned and operated by Billy and Rita Martinson, who have in so many ways dedicated much of their lives to the advancement of Madison County. Their son Allen, and wife Mimi, worked with them many years at Garden Works transforming the business into their vision, a cutting edge garden center supplying Mississippi’s rapidly growing community in its landscape and gardening demands. The nine-acre facility, now owned by Allen and Mimi, hosts a full-scale garden center stocked with the highest-quality trees and shrubs available, an on-site growing operation that stocks our bedding plant area with Mississippi’s finest selection of annuals, perennials, herbs, and mixed planted containers, and a landscape company with two landscape architects and a contractor crew.
About Us
Allen grew up in the family business, learning floristry to landscaping and everything in between. After attaining a horticulture degree, he served three years in the Peace Corps on an extensive organic growing project in the Caribbean. At the close of his project, he decided to return home to his family and their business. He introduced a premium quality bedding plant production operation for the purpose of providing a better quality plant to both the family business and other Mississippi retailers.
After marrying Mimi, a farm girl from the Delta, they ran this business together for seven years before turning their interest towards the retail side of Martinson's Garden Works. From that point forward, they have compiled a product mix of plants and garden and patio goods that show their devotion to raising the standards of Mississippi Garden centers.
Raising their two children, Mia and Max, to be cool and conscientious individuals, traveling to exotic locations, organic gardening, and raising their farm animals are some of the things that keep them inspired and motivated.
