From Humble Beginnings: Celebrating Our 50th Anniversary

Since the founding of Florida State Employees FCU in 1961, we have seen exponential growth in membership & assets. From just seven charter members, the credit union now serves over 3,100 members, holding over $26 million in assets. Numerous financial products and services have been added throughout the years to meet growing member needs and we now have three fully functional locations. Locations include Milton, Downtown Pensacola and on Pensacola’s north side, Nine Mile Road. We are excited to announce that we will be opening a new Downtown Pensacola location. Stay tuned for updates!

The success and strength gained throughout the years would not have been possible without you, our member/owners! Because of our member trust and support, we have become the financial institution we are today – a five-star rated, multi-product and service financial institution. We cover the four surrounding counties of Pensacola, including Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton and are eager to incorporate more services and locations for our growing member base.

Florida State Employees Federal Credit Union originated in 1961 with seven charter members. Business was conducted from an office located in the Florida State Employment Service building at 236 West Garden Street, and its first manager was Mr. Roscoe Manning. The credit union's field of membership covered employees of the state agencies in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties and later added Okaloosa and Walton counties to the field of membership.

In 1973, the credit union purchased property and constructed an office at 305 West Gregory Street, at which time Mrs. Marie Courtney took over as manager. Upon her retirement, the West Gregory Street office was named the Marie Courtney Building. In 1986, the credit union amended its charter to include the University of West Florida Alumni and later added the students of UWF into its field of membership.

In 1996, the credit union built another office on East Nine Mile Road, which is now our home office.

The credit union has grown from $200,000 in assets in 1961 to over $26 million at present and is still growing. Our hard-working and dedicated staff of employees, along with the board of directors, members and the supervisory committee members, are proud to serve more than 3,100 credit union members.
