The Dos and Don'ts for Healthy Feet

Dos

Walking is the best form of exercise for your feet.
At all times wear properly fitting and protective footwear.
When treating a foot injury use ice. Ice (cold) helps to numb and prevent any swelling.
Seek out professional medical help when injury or infection occurs in the foot or ankle. Feet require health treatment as much as the rest of your body.
With over 300 ailments of the foot, you should regularly consult your podiatric physician. Your feet should never be neglected.

Don'ts

Walk or stand around barefoot. This increases your risk of foot injury or infection not to mention the lack of support.
Ignore pains in your foot or ankle. Foot pain is not the norm!
Use heat or soak in hot water for treatment of an injury to your foot or ankle. It helps to increase blood flow, which in turn causes swelling. OUCH!
Wear excessively high heels. Heels above 2 inches if worn for extended periods bring certain foot pain.
Put athletic shoes on your feet for any other sport other than for what it was intended. Also don't wear shoes that have lived beyond their usefulness.

Shoe Recommendations:

The shoes on this list offer stability and comfort features that promote foot health and work well with OTC arch supports and custom orthoses. The shoes were evaluated in quality shoe stores in the San Francisco and Seattle areas.

Not all shoes will be available in all areas and, due to space considerations, not all quality shoes could be included on this list. Quality shoe stores with well-trained salespeople will be able to find similar shoes that are not on the list.
