Curriculum
What does our daily, hands-on curriculum consist of?
Your child will be provided daily with the following activities as part of their daily curriculum.
Language Arts
Children will learn their numbers and letters, sounds and words with the use of different media. Materials will be provided for word recognition and development of language, pre-reading, and literary skills. Writing skills will be introduced through shapes, upper and lower case letters and tracing. Our Pre-K group will be introduced to a reading program.
Math Concepts
Math concepts will be introduced through numbers, thinking, games and counting. Children will learn to recognize numbers out of context. The Pre-K class will be introduced to addition and subtraction.
Science
Experiments will be introduced to enhance monthly theme. Planting seeds, observing nature, using cognitive skills and math concepts are all part of this experiment.
Cooking
Children will learn how to measure, pour, mix and make their own goodies. Cooking projects will be introduced to enhance their monthly theme.
Learning Centers
Children will learn to play independently and in small groups and develop gross and fine motor skills through the use of hands-on play. Manipulative toys, puzzles, legos, dramatic play, sand play and other educational materials are all a part of learning center time.
Storytelling
Teachers will encourage opportunities for development of listening skills and imagination through creative storytelling. Flannelboard stories and puppets are just some of the different ways in which stories are presented.
Creative Art
Children will develop their creativeness through the use of paints, drawings, clay, collages and other materials. Use of water colors and easel painting are among the many other choices.
Music
Children will do stretch exercises and dance and rhythm and will use instruments to create sounds. They will become familiar with popular nursery rhymes and songs.
Spanish
Introduction to simple Spanish words will be introduced.
Themes
Monthly themes are introduced during circle time and incorporate topics such as transportation, animals, holidays and healthy foods.
Computers
Computer instruction is provided for children three years and up.
Sensory/Fine Motor
Sensory and fine motor activities promote awareness of things around us. Textures, cutting, grasping are all part of this.
Program Enhancements
Fire department presentations, dentists and community helpers are just some of the guests that will visit us throughout the year.
*All activities are age appropriate and may or may not be introduced in each age group.
