Martha Butterfield, MD grew up as a farm girl in rural Illinois southwest of Chicago. Dr. Butterfield enjoyed the simple pleasures of growing up in a farming community with her mom and dad, three older brothers, and a twin sister. While on the farm, she enjoyed gardening, showing Angus cattle at local fairs, competing in track and field events and playing the clarinet.
She attended the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, Il and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in biology in 1983. She attended Vanderbilt University Medical School in Nashville, Tennessee, and completed her MD degree in 1987. After completing internal medicine residency in 1990, she practiced internal medicine for three years before pursuing further specialty training. She completed allergy and immunology fellowship raining at Vanderbilt University in 1995.
Martha Butterfield, MD has been practicing allergy in middle Tennessee since 1995. She is board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. She founded Brentwood Allergy & Asthma, PC in 1999. Dr. Butterfield and the dedicated staff of Brentwood Allergy & Asthma, PC strive to provide exceptional allergy care to their patients through friendly customer service, thorough medical and allergy evaluation by the physician, and individualized treatment plans for each patient. In order to provide her patients with the best allergy care available, Dr. Butterfield updates her allergy specialty skills yearly at ACAAI/AAAAI sponsored meetings each year.

Outside of her busy practice, Dr. Butterfield enjoys reading, listening to a wide variety of music, biking, running, hiking outdoors and traveling rural Tennessee with her boyfriend on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. She is blessed that her mom and dad, her brother John, twin sister Mary and her family live nearby. She also enjoys visiting her two brothers, Kent and David, and their families on the Illinois farm where they all grew up.
