Celebrating 43 Years in Business
1968 to 2011
Buford
Street Drug has come a long way since opening its doors back in June
of 1968. Dean E. Clary and Jimmy Moss started the business in front
of the old Gaffney High School as a pharmacy and
variety store. In 1981 the store moved to 314 E. Buford St and added True Value Hardware to the
mix. In 1992 they opened the Post Office Contract Station when the main
post office moved to Floyd Baker Blvd. They started the Home
Medical Supply in late 1994. Mr. Clary retired in August
of 1995 and decided to sell the store to his partner James" Mickey" Harmon,
manager Charlie Patton and pharmacist Danner Abernathy and Marion Patten.
In August of 1999 the pharmacy was sold to CVS and the Patton brothers continued the tradition with the hardware and home medical business. They moved to 101 N. Granard St. keeping the name Buford Street. In July of 2000 they changed from True Value Hardware to ACE Hardware. Then in February 2002, after a two and a half year absence, Buford Street reopened the pharmacy with pharmacist Marion Patton and Michelle Patton.
After four years, in September of 2003, Buford Street moved to its current location back on Buford St. Since that time they have added Craftsman Tools.
Many things have happened to Buford Street over the years, especially the last ten, but the heart of the business has not changed. Fast, friendly service is what has made Buford Street a success for forty years.
It is with gratitude and appreciation to the people of Cherokee County and to all the current and past employees that we say thanks for forty wonderful years.
