Disability Law Info
If a person has a psychological or physical disability that causes him or her to be unable to do work for which he/she is suited (given the person's education, age, and experience) and the disability is expected to either last for at least one year or unfortunately to result in death, then this person will be considered officially disabled for purposes of Social Security.
Social Security administers divided benefit programs for these individuals with disabilities into four different ones:
- Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Disabled Widows and Widowers benefits (DWB)
- Disabled Adult Child Benefits (DAC)
The process for making disability determinations as well as medical requirements to prove disability is the same for each program.
