Bob's Transmissions History

In 1979, Bob Thoman opened Bob's Carburetors. He opened his business in a rented back room at Battles Garage; his business quickly outgrew the rented space. Bob moved his location to a larger facility, which was a starter and alternator business owned by Carlton Thorton, and they both shared the facility.

The move proved to be a good move for Bob's Carburetors. Bob's business and reputation grew because he found he could purchase OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts directly from the factory, bypassing local parts suppliers. He passed the savings along to his customers, and business was booming. Bob's Carburetors' reputation spread throughout the Columbus and Fort Benning area as "The best place to get your car fixed right and at the best price!" Bob's business was going so well that he purchased Mr. Thorton's starter and alternator business.

After many years in the business, Bob made a business decision to relocate to the north end of town. As with most businesses, technology forced Bob to change from rebuilding carburetors to rebuilding transmissions and general auto repair. As we all know, cars have become more complicated to work on. All employees at Bob's Transmission Unlimited Inc. are factory trained and certified. Paul Hill was one of Bob's original employees, and he currently holds the position of General Manager.

Bob has been in business for 30 years and knows what customers are looking for, which is a job done right at a good price and to be treated fairly. These are what keep customers coming back to his repair facility time after time.
