About Us

Chattanooga’s Garment Care Specialist is a family owned and operated business that began in 1960 by Ralph Jr. and Joann Whitmire as a wash, dry and fold service company. As the years rolled by, The Whitmires decided to open a laundry and dry cleaning business, from that White Star Laundry & Cleaners was born.  In the late 80s the couple decided that they would concentrate more on the dry cleaning aspect of the business. White Star Laundry & Cleaners was sold and they moved to our current main office, Big Ridge Cleaners & Laundry.

Today, Chattanooga’s Garment Care Specialist has acquired three other locations making us the area’s only certified professional dry cleaner and certified environmental cleaner. The couple’s son Robert Whitmire currently operates the business but still has his parents’ assistance.
