Acupuncture treatments are focused on creating balance through a movement of bipolar electromagnetic energy known as chi or qi. Imbalances in the meridians and organ systems of the body result from a variety of causes, including stress, poor diet, constitutional weakness, pollutants, environmental toxins, trauma, etc. Acupuncture supports and strengthens the systems of the body and facilitates a smooth and free flow of chi. Some of the conditions treated here are allergies such as hay fever, sinusitis, ear infections, and immune system strengthening. Acupuncture is over 3,000 years old and has helped people become well and stay healthy.
Acupuncture and pain from injury or illness. Pain is a warning signal; treating the underlying cause is the approach we take to provide a safe, effective, natural, and drug-free way to eliminate pain. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) acknowledge the benefits of acupuncture. It is important for chi to flow freely throughout the body without blockage, and by inserting fine, sterile needles at specific points, this is accomplished. Pain-free health, well being, and vitality can be achieved. The goal of pain relief is to develop a treatment plan specific to your needs and to eliminate symptoms while addressing the root cause or causes. We also treat fibromyalgia, sciatica, disc herniation or bulge pain with neuropathy, chronic low back or neck pain, headaches and migraines, carpal tunnel syndrome, etc.
Acupuncture and depression or stress. An interplay between body and emotions is inseparable. Stagnant or depressed chi causes disharmony within our bodies, affecting our physical and emotional well being. The goals of treatment are to activate the movement of chi throughout the entire body, treating it as a whole. We always work with your medical doctor and the medications that you may be on to safely address the root causes and underlying imbalances.
Quit smoking and lose weight with acupuncture. Our office was featured on WBTV’s Channel 2 news Healthwise in 2001 for our successful approach to kicking the habit. Acupuncture treatment is successful at calming and relaxing the mind, reducing food and nicotine cravings, stimulating repairs, and healing organ systems. Acupuncture releases endorphins, eliminates food cravings and binge eating, reduces stress, and supports healthy digestion. Exercise is always an important component of any weight loss program with weight training and aerobic cardiovascular conditioning.
Acupuncture and fertility. Acupuncture increases fertility by increasing blood flow to the uterus, improving the chance of an ovum implanting on the uterine wall. Acupuncture also reduces anxiety, stress, and the hormones these emotions can produce. It normalizes hormone and endocrine systems that regulate ovulation and menstrual cycle, as documented in a study published in Human Reproduction Journal. Acupuncture is used to strengthen, support, and balance overall health and well-being.
Chiropractic doctors are trained to practice and perform spinal adjustments (manipulation), physiotherapy modalities, and stretches and rehabilitation exercises, give nutritional advice, perform x-rays, and order MRI, CT, NCV, or other advanced diagnostic testing. There are 4 national board examinations before doctors can apply for a state license. Guided by a thorough case history and examination, your doctor will evaluate your individual needs and determine a course of treatment. Chiropractic is a conservative, natural approach to better health, and most important, it allows you to be free of pain. Millions of people have become healthier using chiropractic principles that originated in America in 1895.
How does an adjustment work? Imagine a nerve or muscle that is irritated or inflamed. Compare this to a garden hose and water flowing through with restriction. When the hose is lying straight without any kinks, water flows through it freely. If there is a kink or compression, water flow is reduced or altered or even stopped. Spinal adjustments can ease pressure and irritation or inflammation to the central nervous system and allow nerve impulses to conduct or flow and protect the nerve from further damage. A pop or clicking sound is often heard during an adjustment, called cavitation, caused by a rapid but safe change in pressure acting on the fluids (synovium) and gas (nitrogen) within the joint. Your nervous system controls and regulates every cell of your body. When it doesn't work right, you don't work right! Doctors of chiropractic (DC) essentially promote the healing process by minimizing interference to the nervous system.
Most people have more than one episode, sometimes continuous episodes, of low back pain. A 1994 report from the federal government's Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) concluded that chiropractic care is the safest, drug-free initial form of treatment. The study also recommended that conservative treatments such as spinal manipulation should be pursued before surgical intervention is considered. Applying precisely directed force to a spinal joint (vertebrae) that is out of position or fixated (not moving properly) helps to gradually restore it to a more normal position and function. Specific to your condition only, spinal rehabilitation, core muscle training, and flexibility stretches are all part of your chiropractic treatment at our office. STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION ARE THE KEY!
Stiffness or neck pain and headaches. Injuries, poor ergonomics, and imbalances can cause cervical vertebrae to move out of their correct position, affecting the soft tissues (tendons, ligaments, and muscles) inflaming them, and causing the body to respond by contracting muscles (hypertonicity and trigger points). Disc injury, arthritis, or normal age deterioration also change the normal, healthy curve of the neck, producing unwanted stress, limiting motion, and causing pain or discomfort. Depending on the individual's condition, the doctor's hands or a special instrument that offers gentle and specific corrective techniques are utilized. Whiplash injuries from a car accident result from a sudden sharp movement of the neck and head. Neck pain, headaches, fatigue, shoulder pain, and sleep disturbances can result from whiplash injuries.
Improve athletic performance. The role of chiropractic in sports is three-fold: it speeds recovery from injury, enhances performance, and helps to prevent future problems. Chiropractic principles are to restore biomechanical and muscular functions and correct spinal or extreme joint injuries that limit motion, strength, endurance, and speed.
