The classrooms are organized into activity areas with a wide variety of materials for children to explore, discover, experiment, and invent. Art, music, literature, language development, science experiences, number and math concepts, and fun will play a major role in our daily program. The outdoor play area provides children the opportunity to socialize, climb, run, ride wheeled toys, garden, and engage in social-dramatic play. Our program emphasizes development of the whole child.

     Lesson Plan ActivityDefinitions/Guidelines

Class Opening

This is the time of morning to open and welcome everyone into the classroom. During this time teachers review alphabet, calendar w/days of the week, numbers, pledge, sing patriotic song, Mr. Pazoo or Small Wonder, weekly vocabulary words, review of days activities, etc.

Story Time

Teacher-Directed Reading (teacher reads) and question time about the books (example, what, where, when, how and explain this is the front of the book, this the title page and the author is…)

Work Time

This is what has been know as center time students choose the areas they want to work in – dramatic play, art, science, etc. on the lesson plan you need to have a specific activity planned for the area specified on the lesson plan format; teachers need to rotate children into the different work areas, towards the end of the week if Johnny has only played in blocks, teachers need to direct him to other areas such as science and math – also this a good time for teachers to give one-on-one student/teacher interaction as well as benchmark observations – work time needs a least two rotations during the designated time.

Academic Time

This is when students sit together as a group at the tables and do academic work which is listed on the lesson plan – if needed between lessons students can get up and do a stretching exercise or marching (something to get out a bit of energy) and then sit back down to do work – Note: all students must have a chair to sit at in the classroom – we have chairs on order for those that need them!

Physical Education ½ planned

½ hour planned activity is tacher directed physical education activity such as duck-duck-goose or parachute ball play.
